Worship Ministry Volunteers Needed - How About You?

We need your help to make our worship services go smoothly! With 8, 11 or 16 volunteers needed depending on the service (that’s for 8:00 am, 9:00, and 11:15) there are plenty of opportunities to lend a hand. The best part is, you can help at the service you already attend! You don’t have to come downtown on a different day of the week, and you don’t have to miss the sermon or music in your favorite service. Could you serve once a month? Here are a few ways you could help:

  • Altar Guild (Sacristans): Help prepare the altar for communion and clear the altar after the service. While it might not always be glamorous (it does include washing up the communion vessels), this role has a spiritual significance.
  • Acolyte (Altar Server): Carry the cross into worship, hold the gospel book, light the candles, and serve at the communion table. This is a vital role that's close to the heart of worship.
  • Usher: Welcome and guide visitors, pass out bulletins and offering baskets, and help show the way to communion. Ushers are the soul of hospitality and play a critical role in our services.
  • Greeter: Offer a friendly face and share information with visitors and newcomers (and we want to grow our congregation, right?). Being a greeter is a great way to meet people, even if you're new to the church.

There are also other services that need volunteers-- could you be a sacristan at the Solemn Eucharist, or usher for Choral Evensong on Wednesday evenings?

While there are other worship ministries such as lector, intercessor, Eucharistic minister and online/Facebook greeter, the ones listed above are where we need the most help right now.

Older children and youth are welcome in all of these ministries if they are interested. Newcomers and new members are invited to get involved, too.

If you’d like to discuss, try out or sign up for a worship ministry, contact Ginger Bitikofer, ([email protected], 216-774-0407) or talk with a verger or clergy person.

If you’re interested in the 9:00 Abundant Table service, speak with Eric Travis, ([email protected], 216-774-0408).

We’ll help get you connected! Training sessions for various worship ministries are in the works.

Thank you for considering volunteering.
