Priest Associate for Community Outreach & Congregational Care

Reports to: The Dean of Trinity Cathedral

Status: Full Time

FLSA: Exempt

Job Summary:  The Priest Associate for Community Outreach and Congregational Care at Trinity Cathedral assists and supports the Dean in carrying out the vision of Trinity Cathedral to be a sacred place for all people, overseeing congregational development and pastoral care, and leading the community-facing service ministries of the Cathedral congregation.  

In addition to sharing in the pastoral leadership of the Cathedral, the Priest Associate will help Trinity grow as a community resource in downtown Cleveland and as a healthy community of faith.

Essential Functions:

  1. Develops and implements ministry with & within the diverse neighborhoods of the City of Cleveland
  • Coordinates pastoral care and oversees and supports lay pastoral ministries

  • Leads congregational outreach efforts, including coordination, planning, and discernment of ministry life cycles
  • Offers a ministry of presence through regular engagement with Trinity members, care in moments of struggle and celebration, and leadership of pastoral and healing liturgies.
  • Participates in the liturgical leadership of the Cathedral, including preaching and celebration, and participation in the creation of Cathedral worship services
  • Supervises Congregational Ministry staff (Associate for Congregational Ministries, Kitchen Coordinator(s) & Children’s/Youth Director.
  • Serves as staff Liaison to one to two Mission Teams
  • Offers pastoral and administrative leadership to the Social Justice Team, which in includes Trinity’s relationship with Greater Cleveland Congregations
  • Leads and/or participates in annual youth ministry pilgrimage
  • All other duties as assigned.

Membership Development: Supports the membership process of the congregation with a well-defined articulation of membership and its benefits; actively connects visitors with the life of the congregations in ways that support membership commitment and growth; understands the membership process of the congregation as a system that incorporates hospitality, welcome, orientation, membership and deployment.
  1. Visitation:Moves comfortably and easily around those who are ill or suffering; generates a sense of calm, hopeful presence; offers appropriate prayers and facilitates rituals that invite healing; demonstrates appropriate personal boundaries when caring for the ill and dying; stands as a calm, sure presence in the face of death.
