Position Description: Trinity Cathedral seeks an experienced and inspired individual for the full-time position of Communications Manager. This individual is responsible for day-to-day planning and execution of a comprehensive communications and marketing program for Trinity Cathedral and Trinity Commons, including its digital presence and voice, guided by the Cathedral’s mission, vision, and values. The Communications Manager reports to the Dean of the Trinity Cathedral. This position also supports communications and marketing activities of Music & Art at Trinity, a related 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity.
Primary Responsibilities:
Advance Trinity Cathedral’s vision to be A Sacred Place for All People through electronic and printed Communications
- Write, edit, and manage content for vehicles including website, e-newsletter, monthly newsletter, social media, Sunday bulletin, print mailings and brochures, podcasts, and other channels
- Guide clergy and ministry leaders in the creation and dissemination of content
- Support stewardship and development with materials that promote annual giving, capital campaigns and other fundraising activities
- Support congregational growth through printed and electronic materials that broaden participation by members and create avenues of invitation and connection for newcomers
- Coordinate communications and marketing activities for Music & Art at Trinity
- Manage the production and design of Trinity’s Annual Report
- Explore new (and old school) mediums for successful marketing
Manage a digital strategy and presence that tells the story of a dynamic Cathedral congregation
- Internal Collaboration: be part of the team that helps plan and execute marketing initiatives and special events, including fundraisers, community outreach activities, and public awareness campaigns.
- Develop digital content campaigns, including video and social media, to grow engagement and visibility both with the Trinity congregation and throughout our city, region, and Diocese
- Work to ensure effectiveness and currency of Trinity’s website
- When needed, lead the staff and leadership through the process of website revision. (Note: Trinity commissioned a new website and visual rebrand in 2023)
- Lead a lively social media presence promoting Trinity, the Diocese of Ohio and the Episcopal Church
Manage Trinity Cathedral’s online/livestream broadcast
- Work with clergy to oversee a broadcast-quality livestream of regular worship services
- Supervise livestream budget and support personnel
- Ensure monitoring of digital audience during broadcast
Develop and manage an effective Communications Strategy
- Create and manage integration of all marketing efforts into a cohesive annual strategy including digital, print, direct mail, social media, and event advertising.
- Leverage brand collateral for effective storytelling about the Cathedral to engage stakeholders, including members, community partners, donors, and program participants.
- In consultation with Dean and Development office, develop an annual plan for digital marketing, including cultivation of digital donors.
- In consultation with Development, coordinate direct mail fundraising as needed for acquisition of new donors and cultivation of active donors.
Manage the external communications and brand management
- Serve as the primary media contact; create and publish occasional press releases
- Coordinate electronic, print, and radio advertising
- Maintain brand guidelines for all internal and external Trinity communications
- Coach Trinity staff members on being effective communicators
Manage a sustainable infrastructure of church communications
- Manage podcasts and video communications
- Maintain an editorial calendar for all Cathedral communications
- Work with outside vendors
- Establish and maintain an external and internal archival system for electronic based media
- Write and disseminate policies for internal and external communications
- Develop a crisis communications plan and manage when necessary
Reporting
The Communications Manager reports to the Dean of Trinity Cathedral (or designee), works in close partnership with the Director of Development and Community Programming, works collegially with clergy and administrative staff members, and supervises a part-time webmaster/livestream director, as well as a sound technician.
Education, Skills and Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or related discipline, or comparable experience
- Three or more years of professional experience
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Experienced in graphic design/production
- Experienced in maintaining a social media presence and email campaign software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Wordpress, e-mail distribution systems, and content management systems
- Demonstrated history of being both self-motivated and a team player
- Ability to think strategically and to collaborate with and provide direction to others
- Experienced in working in diverse teams that include both staff and volunteers
- Strong project management and organizational skills, including budget adherence
- Experience within the Episcopal Church is a plus, but not required
Compensation: $50-55,000 annually and excellent benefits including family health insurance, short-term disability, life insurance and a retirement pension plan.
