Episcopal Civics Class

Welcome to the Trinity Weekly! We’ll continue to offer all the important weekly information on what’s happening soon at Trinity through this email every Thursday. With our recent rebranding though, we’ve tweaked many of our communications channels to keep a consistent look and feel.

So…how exactly do we choose a bishop?

If you’ve ever wanted to know how The Episcopal Church is governed and structured, there’s no better time than now: not only did our General Convention happen this past summer – for the first time in four years – but we are also about to elect our next bishop at the diocesan convention in November!

Before we get to the larger questions of who we might elect, let’s start with some important foundations of how we will choose a new bishop, because how we go about electing our pastoral leaders says a whole lot about who we are as a church. It says a great deal about what is foundational to who we are, as well as how we create space for the Holy Spirit to do new things in our midst.

This Sunday I’ll lead Episco-Civics 101, a class that’s all about how we understand leadership in The Episcopal Church. We’ll talk about the history of General Convention (created the same year as the US Constitution, with more than a passing resemblance), how it works today, and talk a lot about the nuts and bolts of our current bishop election here in Ohio.

Because livestreaming The Abundant Table at 9 a.m. limits what we can do between the services, this class will only be offered in-person so please join us if you can in conference room A/B at 10:10 a.m. this Sunday!
