Director of Music
Trinity Cathedral Cleveland is an historic congregation rich with faith, devotion, music and service. We seek a full-time Director of Music to create a diverse program of music honoring the Anglican choral tradition of our denomination while participating in ministry where all voices are heard, welcomed and celebrated.
As Artistic Director of Music and Art at Trinity (M&A), a 501(c)3 corporation, you will program outreach performances that encompass a variety of musical styles and are intended to have broader community appeal beyond traditional church music. Both positions report to the Dean.
Skills and Qualifications sought:
- Demonstrated competency in administering church music programs
- Excellence in organ and piano performance and improvisation
- Expertise and enthusiasm directing choirs
- Familiarity with Episcopal Church liturgy
- Experience with diverse liturgical music styles
- Positive leadership style and strong communication skills
- Sensitivity to the role of music in ministry
Position Responsibilities
- Select/approve music for worship services
- Program M&A concerts/performances
- Develop annual Cathedral Music and M&A budgets
- Provide newsletter and social media content for music programs
- Report to M&A Board of Directors, and work with Worship, Art, and Music Mission Team; and Diocesan Worship Planning Committee
- Play worship services or arrange alternate
- Play other liturgical events (e.g. weddings/funerals) or approve alternate
- Host, conduct and/or perform as appropriate in M&A events
- Hire/supervise staff and recruit volunteers to M&A program
- Recruit, audition, rehearse and conduct singers and other music personnel
- Supervise and support music director for The Abundant Table service
- Provide music for Diocesan worship at the Cathedral and the annual Boar’s Head Festival
- Oversee maintenance of all Cathedral instruments
- Oversee the music library
- Create collaborations in Diocesan or ecumenical musical events
- Develop/oversee musical education and performance opportunities for young people
- Pursue relationships with other music, arts and cultural organizations
- Create music programming to benefit the community or develop new audiences
- Assist in fund raising for music programming
