Criminalizing Pregnancy, Legislating Motherhood
Wednesday, March 1, 2023, 7:00 p.m.
This lecture will be given on the opening night of In Confidenza: Secrets and Transcendence, an interactive fiber installation by Ann Kmieck in Trinity Commons gallery. Dr. Sonya Marie Charles is a professor in the department of philosophy and comparative religion at Cleveland State University. She holds degrees in philosophy with a concentration in medical ethics, American history and political science. Her main areas of interest are bioethics and feminist philosophy. Dr. Charles will share briefly from her academic work and open a time of discussion for the group to explore how legislation that restricts women’s reproductive choices is tied to traditional gender norms and issues related to race and class.
