A Weekend of Celebration
This weekend we will celebrate the movement of the Holy Spirit and the gift of ministry, not once but twice!
On Saturday, we’ll celebrate the lives and ministry of the Rt. Rev. Barbara C. Harris and the Rev. Absalom Jones at 11 a.m., in partnership with the Union of Black Episcopalians and the Diocese of Ohio. Our diocese has a strong annual tradition of worshipping together to observe the feast day of Absalom Jones, and this year will add to it the first-in-the-nation major celebration of Bishop Harris who is in process of being added to our sanctoral calendar. I hope you’ll join us for this historic service.
On Sunday, we’ll gather for our annual meeting at 10:10 a.m., to reflect on our ministry and continue to explore how we can become a sacred place for all people. We’ll also elect vestry and nominating committee members. You can find bios for candidates here. Ballots will be handed out before the 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. services and before the meeting itself. Please arrive early enough to collect your ballot and be in your seat and ready to vote by 10:10 a.m. Ballots may be dropped off at a table in the promenade (just before you enter the cathedral from the commons) beforehand when necessary, but we hope that most will choose to vote together as the meeting begins. Voting will close with the in-person ballots cast at the beginning of the meeting.
We look forward to a rich and wonderful weekend of worship and ministry, as we give thanks for God’s spirit in our history, in our midst, and in the seasons to come.
