Media ResourcesFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Good Friday Evening Concert at Trinity Cathedral: Two Requiems February 5, 2008—On Good Friday, March 21, from 7:30 pm-9 pm, the Trinity Cathedral Choir and Trinity Chamber Orchestra will present its annual Good Friday evening concert. Community singers are invited to join the choir for rehearsals and the concert. On this occasion, Canon Daniel Hathaway has chosen two contrasting settings of the Requiem Mass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Maurice Duruflé. This year's event will mark Hathaway's final Good Friday concert at Trinity Cathedral; he marks the finale of thirty-one successful years at the Cathedral during the spring season, and will leave his post in June 2008. On Sunday, March 9 from 10:10 am-11 am, Hathaway will present a forum, open to all, discussing the differences in approach the two composers took in setting a traditional liturgical form to music. The Mozart Requiem was left unfinished at the time of the composer's death, and the work was completed by a student, Franz Suessmeyer. Robert Levin, professor of music at Harvard, has studied the work since his undergraduate days, and published his own completion of the work for the Mozart bicentennial in 1991. The Good Friday concert will use Levin's version of the piece. Chorus rehearsals will begin on Sunday March 2 from 1-3pm; those interested in singing should call 216.579.9745 or e-mail dhathaway@dohio.org for more information. Community singers are asked to purchase a Mozart score for $15.
